Wednesday Night Speaker Series

Akron Beacon Journal columnist talks about her
career, food and her book

During its 40 years of operation, the Western Reserve School of Cooking in Hudson has hosted many of the nation’s top chefs, including Alton Brown, Hugh Carpenter, Shirley Corriher, David Hirsch, James Peterson, and Michael Symon. Famous Chefs and Fabulous Recipes: Lessons Learned at One of the Oldest Cooking Schools in America contains recipes from all of them, and author Lisa Abraham will talk about them as part of a speaker series at Stow Presbyterian Church, 4150 Fishcreek Road, on Wednesday, January 8 at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Lisa will share stories about her job as a lifestyle columnist and food writer for the Akron Beacon Journal, and also about her book, which will be available after the talk for a discounted price. “I think that audience members will enjoy hearing stories about the famous chefs who have taught at the Western Reserve School of Cooking, which are the subject matter of the book” said Abraham.

A native of Niles, Ohio, Abraham is a graduate of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University, and has been a newspaper writer in Ohio for more than 25 years. Her work appears weekly in the Wednesday Food Section of the Akron Beacon Journal, and regularly appears in newspapers across the country through the McClatchy-Tribune news service. Abraham is also a popular guest on WAKR radio, where she chats about food and cooking.
