'Little Shop of Horrors': The Crew That Makes It All Go

The crew of "Little Shop of Horrors" is the well-oiled machine keeping things all together!

Any production at any level would be lost without people working behind the scenes, and such is the case with the SMFHS musical “Little Shop of Horrors.”

“During rehearsals [the crew goes] through both acts and fixes anything that needs to be fixed,” junior Kayla Elbon said. “[We also] work on what's already been fixed.”

The crew, on all tiers, is the machine that keeps everything moving. Each piece of the set, every light, the sound, make-up and even ushering—these are all things that the cast relies on during the performances.

The crew is a large group, divided by a variety of sections. At the head of each sections are as follows:

  • Senior Liz Nowicki in sound
  • Junior Greg Blazosky in lighting
  • Rachel Shumway and Kristen Perkins in stage crew (assisted by Elbon)
  • Senior Monqiue Rovelsky at make-up
  • Kirsten Pokelsek in props
  • Senior Allison Thompson has also been organizing ushers for the big show.

In Nowicki's department of sound, Lily Hagigat, Marissa Valente, Hannah Thomasson, Mallory Thomasson, Emily Baldwin and Alex Schum will help
put on microphones on actors and check sound levels during the weekend.

Lighting is made up of Wyatt Hayes, Elliot Matz, Anthony Facione, Victor Stone, Katie Price, Skyler Demita and Kara Burton. Costumes were advised by a board of Shirali Patel, Palak Patadia, Nirali Patel, Leslie Dirick, Samantha Kirgresner and Amanda Kenepp.

The stage crew, one of the largest departments, is formed by Sara Damian, Molly Divine, Alexis Streharsky, Holly Lowry, Kerry Bukosky, Alexa Yard, Sam Matz, Travis Hargett and Chris Burton.

Only two make up the make-up, as Lane Hedler and Cora Coen help Rovelsky. Pokelsek is the only listed props crew member.

“I love working on all of our productions and I've never worked a technical aspect before, so being on sound crew makes it extra exciting,” Hagigat said. “It's been fun getting to watch [the show].”

Jerry Dolson and director Robert Putka advise all crew.
