Deja Vu, Cleveland-Style

The only redeeming quality of the Browns horrid performance last Sunday is that it happened early in the season.

Well, well, well ... who saw that coming?

Actually we all should have ...

Cleveland's version of Groundhog Day poked its head out for opening day again, and like so many openers before, the Browns were ... well, the Browns.

It reminded me of a great quote I read online yesterday:

"With the world constantly changing, committing 7 penalties in the first fifteen plays is strangely comforting."

Sad but true.

Browns Nation is still shaking its collective head over Sunday's debacle (Really?  Bruce Gradkowski?) and what it means for the rest of the season. But really--should we be surprised by this? Shouldn't we have developed the thick skin required to weather this latest stink storm?  We're Browns fans--we should be used to this by now.

Me? I'm gonna try to stay positive. I thought if the Browns wanted to show their fanbase and the rest of the football world they were on the rise, a solid win against Cincy was necessary. But after further review, losing the opener can have some benefits.

If you're gonna lose, lose early.  Get the stink out now. Works in college football, right?

Forget to call a timeout when the opposing offense is attempting to quick snap in the beginning of the season ...

Throw two-yard passes when you're behind late in the first game ...

Shank 3 punts in the opener ...

It's better than throwing your helmet with no time left, allowing the other team a chance to kick a field goal....sorry, went off on a tangent there.

Look you can be mad and want everyone within the Browns organization fired--and you'd be justified to an extent.  But it is still early and the Browns still have time to correct mistakes and win some games.

I know, I know--I'm only enabling this type of play with tired rationalizations, but there were some positives from Sunday.  Joe Haden is a stud who looks like a Pro Bowler in the making. D'Qwell Jackson is a tackling machine.

And let's not forget the role of Providence.  With Peyton Manning out indefinitely, next week's game that looked like a certain loss now looks winnable. Hey, look at it this way--Fate gave the Browns a Mulligan ... now they need to take advantage.

So everybody needs to pick themselves up, wipe off the crumbs from your Peyton Hillis replica jersey and get ready for this Sunday. Redemption is but a game away.

Unless of course the Browns lose -- then EVERYONE should be fired!
