Phew! Now that my conscience is clear, I can write this blog post!
Seriously. I do have a Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs stash. I work out of the home, so nothing is sacred around here. So, I have to hide these things so those darn kids don’t steal my stuff! (I don’t have to worry about Anne – she claims I have the female genes when it comes to chocolate! Which I can’t deny. Ever drool when you watch a Dove Chocolate commercial? I do!)
So, what’s so special about a Reese’s Peanut Butter Egg? For me, it’s the additional peanut butter in the mix that does the trick. I love regular Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups(R), don’t get me wrong. But, the Eggs just have that extra something that makes it that much better.
Now that I’ve confessed my addiction, you’re probably wondering “What in the world does this have to do with anything?” Well, here it is: With online marketing, it’s all about the right combination of ingredients. In some cases “more peanut butter” might make all the difference; in others, “more chocolate” might be the answer. The goal is to find the right mixture that works best for you and your company.
Finding the right balance won’t be easy. But, you have to explore and discover what works and what doesn’t before coming to the conclusion that “more peanut butter” is the solution. I’m sure it took The Hershey Company many, many stages of trial and error to come to the final balance of perfection that is the Peanut Butter Egg. The same is true of your business.
Facebook, while it may be the hottest trend on the planet, just might not be the best investment for some businesses at this time. Spending thousands of dollars on a knock-out website may not provide the biggest bang for your buck. Search engine optimization may only be a small part, or it may be the ONLY part, of your online marketing mix. But, you’ll never know until you take a few steps toward finding out what each opportunity offers and how it might benefit you and your business.
