The “Living on the Ledge” photo exhibit, on display at F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm (1828 Smith Rd., Akron) through December, celebrates the preservation of Liberty Park in northeast Summit County, with a sneak peek at a planned nature center and amazing visuals from the camera of volunteer Jerry Cannon. A FREE reception will open the exhibit Saturday, June 1 from 1 to 3 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.

Jerry Cannon, of Stow, is the first Metro Parks volunteer to reach 8,000 hours of service, much of it as a volunteer photographer. Online, National Geographic recently highlighted Cannon’s significant contributions to the park district’s citizen science initiatives.

At nearly 2,000 acres, Liberty Park − a partnership with the City of Twinsburg − is the largest property managed by Metro Parks, Serving Summit County. It contains three hiking trails totaling 3.3 miles, and much of the land is considered a conservation area managed by Metro Parks to protect natural resources and improve water quality.

“Liberty Park is special because of its diversity,” said Cannon. “There are meadows, sandstone ledges, vernal pools and woods that are home to a great variety of plants and animals. Every trip provides many opportunities to observe and photograph its beauty.”
