What Happened at the Jan. 22, 2013 Committee Meetings of Stow City Council

At-large councilman Mike Rasor shares his notes from the January 22, 2013 meetings of the committees of Stow City Council.

After weeks of voting on hotly contested zoning issues, City Council was awfully quiet tonight. My notes from tonight’s committee meetings are below:

– The Stow Historical Society is seeking a conditional zoning certificate to move the Stewart School, which is a one-room schoolhouse currently located at 5120 Young Road. You might recognize it as a former church. The new location will be just down the road, at Silver Springs Park. The Society needs to raise $45,000 to move the structure and another $30,000 to restore it. They have about $40,000 in the bank.

– Remember the KFC on Kent Road? You know, the restaurant that mysteriously changed to Krispy Krunchy Chicken? Well, it will experience another transformation, pending council’s approval. The owner is seeking to expand the building westward by 1,200 square feet, which would permit the occupancy by a Sleep Outfitters retailer.

– Ken Trenner is our former Planning Director. He stepped down in 2010 due to a disability — an illness that nearly cost him his life. His recovery from this illness is nothing short of a miracle, and he’s now able to return to work. Rob Kurtz holds Ken’s old job. But city council is discussing bringing Ken back as the Economic Development Coordinator. This is really a great comeback story, and I hope the media picks up on it.

– Council will vote on these matters on Thursday at 7 p.m.
