What Happened at the July 26, 2012 City Council Meeting

My notes from Thursday's meeting of Stow City Council are posted below:
The city's road-paving program has begun. It will last the rest of the summer, until mid-September. The crews will be engaged in full-depth repairs and concrete work.
A couple months ago, city council decided to accept bids from parties interested in purchasing vacant city-owned land within the Highland Chase development. We received one bid for each of the two parcels, for a combined offer of $10,266. The parcels are appraised at about $8,500. The city spent $1,700 to advertise bids. Council approved the sale by a 7-0 vote. The buyer will be bound by the deed restrictions and HOA regulations of Highland Chase. This was important to me, in order to protect this vacant property's neighbors.
Three other ordinances passed unanimously, including approval of a site plan for doctor’s offices near the former Damon’s on Steels Corners. Other notable pieces of legislation will wait for a future meeting. The Stow-Kent Shopping Center zoning change must have a public hearing and three readings before council. The legislation to increase pay for an engineering position will be voted on at the next meeting (Aug. 9).
