Last night's meetings - Mike Rasor's blog

My notes from last night’s meetings are posted below:

Planning Committee had two items. First, we discussed the Stow Kent Animal Hospital’s plans to expand its practice to the former Brandon Heating and Cooling building on Kent Road. The practice will continue to also operate out of the facility near the corner of Kent and Fishcreek. They are not proposing to use the building for kennel purposes, which should be a relief to the neighbors on Williamson.

The second item, and most controversial, is the proposal by RLM Darrow, LLC to rezone three parcels on Thorndale from residential to commercial for the purpose of Marhofer Chevrolet building a new dealership and taking over Yukon Road. It would be a $5 million investment, upgrading the property significantly. Neighbors suggested that RLM Darrow, LLC should, rather, choose another parcel in Stow. I think that would actually be the nightmare scenario for the people on Thorndale (and all surrounding areas). That parcel would become the next Stow-Kent Shopping Center — a prominent vacant parcel that would become an eyesore. The Planning Committee did not vote on the legislation because two members were absent, and there was no quorum.

I held a Roads & Safety Committee meeting to discuss the AED tax credit. Since the last meeting, I made changes to the proposal that were suggested by my colleagues and the Finance Department. The committee voted 2-1 to move the legislation forward to Thursday’s meeting.

Council will meet next at 6 p.m. on Thursday with more committee meetings before the regular council meeting at 7 p.m.
