Gregory Lee Young, 61, Family Man

Services were held Dec. 14 in Shelby, Ohio.

Gregory Lee Young, 61, of Stow, and former Shelby resident, died unexpectedly Dec. 7 at his home.

Born March 28, 1951 in Shelby he was the son of the late Victor and Margaret (Hertzer) Young. A 1969 graduate of Shelby High School, Greg attended Kent State University receiving his bachelor's degree and was a member of the Kent State football team. He was currently employed as assistant manager of Sears in North Canton.

More than anything else, he was an exemplary husband to his wife, Mary Beth, who died on Dec. 10, 2011, and a father. If you were to ask him, he would say that his family was his greatest legacy.

He is survived by his daughter, Theresa (Adam) Schultz, of Morrisville, North Carolina, his grandson, Connor Schultz born December 4, 2012; one sister, Sue (Raymond) Alt of Bucyrus; one brother, David (Jean) Young; his mother-in-law, Virginia Smith, and sister-in-law, Anna Miller, both of North Canton, Ohio, in addition to his extended family of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews throughout the country. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Marklin "Mark" Smith.

A memorial service was held Dec. 14 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made in Greg's memory to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., 2600 Network Blvd., Suite 300, Frisco, TX 75034 or a charity of your choice.
