3 Thefts from Unlocked Cars on Same Day

The following information was supplied by the Stow Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

"These thefts from motor vehicles are unfortunately not uncommon and they usually occur in clusters," Stow Police Chief Louis Dirker . "People often leave their cars unlocked and they invite thefts by leaving articles in plain sight inside the vehicles. Citizens should lock their vehicles, even in their driveways, and place articles in the trunk of the car if they want to leave them in the vehicle."

All of the below incidents happened on June 15:

  • A Meadowbrook Boulevard resident reported to Stow Police that his satellite radio system was taken from his unlocked car around 8 a.m. The radio is valued at $70. The unlocked car was parked in the driveway at his house. Theft in this situation is a first-degree misdemeanor.
  • A Uniontown resident reported his U.S. Army identification card as well as his wallet, money clip, government credit card and drivers license was taken from his unlocked car at the BP gas station on Steels Corners Road around 8 a.m. The man told police he left his wallet on the console and went into the store while the car was still running. Video surveillance of the parking lot was not available. Theft in this situation is a fifth-degree felony.
  • An Algonquin Trail resident reported about $500 in electronic devices were taken around 6 a.m. from her unlocked car. Items taken include a navigation system, a cell phone, a blue tooth and a MP3 player. Theft, in this situation, is a fifth-degree felony.
