Akron Police Find Car Used in Gunpoint Theft

Police aren't commenting on whether or not the car has yielded new clues from last week's burglary and armed theft that occurred in Stow by a man who's yet to be caught or identified.

The stolen car that was used by an to avoid being captured by Stow police was found over the weekend in Akron. 

According to SPD Lt. Anne Stirm, the 2003 Ford Taurus was recovered by the Akron Police Department, and it appears not to be damaged. 

Stirm would not comment on whether or not new evidence was found in the car to help the investigation.

On Sept. 6., Stow police were responding to a reported burglary at about 1:40 p.m. when they saw a black man (6'1", 200 lbs.) leaving the residence on the 2300 block of Graham Road. Witnesses say the man could be anywhere from 25 to 40 years old.

As police closed in, the man fled on foot, reportedly forced his way into a home at Graham and Sanford Avenue and told residents he had a gun. The man then locked the residents in their laundry room and stole their tan Ford Taurus.

SPD Det. E Gaffney said the department collected and is currently processing evidence that was found at the crime scene.

Police have yet to identify the man, and if anyone has information regarding the case, they are encouraged to immediately call the at 330-689-5700.
