ATV Riding Complaint on Housley Road

Police unable to find riders

A Housley Road resident told Stow Police recently that ATV riding remains a problem on her property.

The property owner told Stow Police March 23 that someone has been riding all-terrain vehicles on her property and that it has been an ongoing problem.

Stow Police Chief Louis Dirker said the property owner filed a criminal trespass complaint but police were unable to locate the riders.

Housley Road is located in the city's northwest corner near industrial property and other open land areas.

Stow City Council briefly introduced proposed legislation that would have increased penalties for riders who trespass after receiving numerous complaints from property owners across the city.

In 2012 the city received 25 calls with complaints about ATV, dirt bike or other similar vehicle use. Of those, 12 were for on-road riding, nine didn’t list a location and four were for riding in a yard or field.

There have been no recent arrests for criminal dirt bike, ATV or other off-road vehicle riding.

Dirker said police will keep an eye on Housley Road.

"We will continue to patrol the area in an attempt to catch the riders and take whatever action is deemed appropriate," he said.
