Firefighter Treated After Putting Out Father's Day Fire

A caused about $130,000 to $140,000 in damage to two homes and sent one firefighter to the hospital. 

Fire Capt. Mark Stone said he spoke with Jim Leidel, the city's fire marshal and investigator on this event, and the fire is not being ruled as suspicious. 

The fire was reported by the homeowner who woke to a crackling sound from the fire outside the house, said Stone.

"The homeowner could see the glow of the fire outside and the fire had not yet spread to the interior living area of the house," he said.

Ten firefighters initially responded to the home at the 2600 block of Duquesne Drive and four more were called later. 

"We did transport one firefighter to the hospital for treatment," said Stone. 

The fire took about 20 minutes to "knock down" and 45 minutes to bring it completely under control where there were a few "hot spots" to extinguish still. 

"It appears the fire started in a shed to the rear of the house due to an undetermined cause," he said. "Prior to the fire department’s arrival, the fire had spread from the shed to the house ... where it caused damage to the attached garage and a portion of the house."

Damage occured to a neighboring home because of the heat produced from the flames. Total damage, between the two homes, is estimated between $130,000 to $140,000, said Stone.
