IRS Investigating Posthumous Identity Fraud Case

A Stow woman whose brother died in early 2009 is trying to clear his name, which was used in a case of posthumous identity fraud involving the Internal Revenue Service.
were called Dec. 19 by a resident of the 3000 block of Crowne Point who reported the identity fraud, a fifth-degree felony.
The woman said her brother died in February 2009. Following his death, an unknown person filed a 2009 federal tax return using the man's identity. The woman was unaware of this until Dec. 12, when she was contacted by the IRS.

The IRS requested a police report on the identity theft, so the woman contacted Stow Police. The IRS will investigate the false return.
