No Charges in Meth Lab Explosion on Mac Drive

Stow, Middlefield men injured in blast

No charges have been filed in a meth lab explosion on Mac Drive Wednesday evening.

Stow Police Chief Louis Dirker said charges are pending further investigation into the explosion, which sent two men to the Akron Children's Hospital Burn Unit for treatment.

Dirker said in a press release that 29-year-old Stow man and a 28-year-old Middlefield, OH, man were injured in the explosion, which happened at about 8 p.m. Wednesday in a duplex at 1442 Mac Drive. The men's names were not released.

The men sustained burns to their hands, feet and face, our news partner at WEWS Channel 5 reports. The meth lab was in a back bathroom.

Police responded after getting multiple 911 calls from neighbors on Mac Drive about the explosion, which caused visible damage to the house.

The resident of the second unit of the duplex was not home at the time of the blast but was instead at work.

He said police have given him access to his unit, but he's unsure if he'll stay in the house or move.

"Everything's OK on my side," he said.

Stow Police Det. Tom Gottas of the narcotics unit responded to the house along with the Summit County Drug Unit, which removed "a large quantity of materials" from the house for evaluation, according to police.
