Police Catch Man Claiming to Have Gun During Robbery

The following information was supplied by the Stow Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Stow Police arrested Randy William Korcker a few days after witnesses said he robbed Acme Sept. 25 around 2 p.m. and initially got away because he threatened he had a gun.

According to a police report, security officers approached the man who was seen shoplifting. When they tried to detain him, the man reached into the waistband of his pants and said he had a gun.

The security employees “backed off and watched him get in a black vehicle” and leave, according to officers.

A gun was never seen and the man left the items he attempted to steal when he ran to his car.

On Oct. 2, Police Lt. Anne Stirm said Krocker, 53, was arrested outside of his home at 3070 Kent Rd. without incident Sept. 27.

"An officer who was aware of the warrant and knew of the subject ... and quickly effected the arrest," said Stirm. "[Krocker's] identity was made known by an officer who responded to the original call and thought it looked like a male known to live in Stow. Witnesses identified the subject from a photo array."

Krocker was charged with robbery, a second-degree felony. He was arraigned in Stow Municipal Court Sept. 28.
