UPDATE: 35 Exposed in Carbon Monoxide Leak at Sto-Kent Family Entertainment

Several area fire departments are assisting Stow at the Fishcreek Road business.

UPDATE 2:45 p.m.

The after-school programs at Sto-Kent Family Entertainment are canceled today after a carbon monoxide leak at the bowling alley exposed as many as 35 people to fumes this morning.

Heather Lajzer, whose family owns the business, posted on its Facebook page that it's unclear if the alley will reopen for league play Thursday night.

Stow Fire Capt. Mark Stone said the 350 parts-per-million of carbon monoxide detected within the building is well below the deadly levels of 3,500 parts-per-million but is still high enough to cause vomiting, loss of consciousness and other health concerns.

Between 30 and 35 customers were exposed to carbon monoxide, and 27 or more were transported to eight area hospitals with the aid of multiple neighboring fire departments.

Others who were exposed were checked at the scene by emergency personnel and refused further treatment.

The leak, which was first reported at 11:40 a.m., happened during the alley's senior bowling league.

The cause of the leak remains under investigation.

UPDATE 1:27 p.m.

Stow Fire Capt. Mark Stone said 35 people are being treated as patients after a carbon monoxide leak at the Sto-Kent Family Entertainment.

Stone said the fire department was called to the bowling alley after a woman fainted.

The fire department discovered levels of carbon monoxide at 350 parts-per-million. Clear, ambient air has zero parts per million, Stone said.

Nine area fire departments are assisting Stow in transporting the 35 victims to area hospitals.

Stone said the order in which patients are being taken to hospitals varies depending on their age and the level of carbon monoxide detected in their blood.

Stone said it's unknown if the carbon monoxide exposure has created any life-threatening situations for the patients.

The cause of the leak is unknown and is under investigation.

From the Sto-Kent Family Entertainment Facebook page:

"Hello everyone. Heather here, on behalf of all of us at SKFE. I want to thank all of you for your concern and especially the local firefighters and EMS workers. We had a scary carbon monoxide leak with our senior citizen league bowling. Everyone is OK. Some received oxygen. We are unsure of our status of being open this evening, but our after school program is canceled for today. Thank you all again."
