Stow Continues Bastock's Luminary Ceremony (Photos)

The continued the tradition that fallen Officer Jonathan Bastock started three years ago. 

The event, "Walk with us and Light up the Night," was hosted by the Stow Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 82, the Stow International Association of Firefighters Local No. 1662 and the Stow Police Reserve Unit.

This year the event was in memory of Bastock, and K-9 Knight and Twinsburg K-9 Bagio. Bagio was Fallen Twinsburg Officer Joshua Miktarian's police dog.

The community lit more than 200 luminaries — 149 for police officers and 83 for firefighters that lined the sidewalk outside of city hall near the dough boy statue. 

at the in September, Police Chief Louis Dirker said, "Jon had a respect for the duties and selfless service of law enforcement officers and firefighters, which inspired the annual luminary vigil. He originated the phrase, 'Remembering Those Who Held the Line.'"

"The name previously was just the luminary ceremony but the police department and the Stow Police reserves decided to honor Jonathan officially and call it the third annual Jonathan Bastock Luminary Ceremony so that each and every year we keep his memory alive," Stow police officer Robert Molody told NewsNet5.

Dirker said the department will continue the annual tradition in Bastock's memory.
