Stow Police: Suspected Bomb Actually Portable Meth Lab

Police say the items found in a box at Circle K on Feb. 18 were consistent with those used to produce methamphetamine.

It turns out the suspected bomb found in a wooded lot near the Fishcreek Road Circle K on Presidents Day was actually a portable meth lab.

The duct-taped, brick-shaped box – found inside a backpack by a passerby – contained lighter fluid, drain opener, coffee filters and two-liter pop bottles stained with residue, the Stow Sentry reports.

Under this "shake and bake" method, noxious chemicals are mixed and shaken up in a pop bottle to produce methamphetamine.

On Feb. 18, the Summit County Bomb Squad was called to the local gas station and, with the help of an X-ray machine, determined the box contained no explosives.
