'This is a Robbery!' Man Linked to Incident in Ravenna

The man who attempted to rob the in Stow Jan. 14 was also recently linked to an attempted robbery in Ravenna, according to Portage County Sheriff David Doak.

The sheriff's department charged Joe R. Schrantz, 40, of Englewood Drive in Stow with attempted robbery, a second-degree felony. 

On Jan. 14 around 1:55 a.m. deputies went to the Kent-Ravenna Walmart on S.R. 59 because they got a call about an attempted robbery. According to the report, the man showed the cashier a handgun.

"When the cashier had difficulty opening the cash register, the subject fled from the store and left the area in a motor vehicle," said Doak's office. The cashier was unharmed.

Police also said his description matched that of a man who was arrested for robberies that happened in Stow and Cuyahoga Falls in September. 

Schrantz is currently in custody at the Summit County Jail.
