Police Lt. Anne Stirm explained that buying a certain amount is illegal because Pseudoephedrine is one of the main ingredients used to manufacture methamphetamines.

"Typically, 60 milligrams of Pseudoephedrine or 1,000 pills are required to cook meth," she said. "The law limits the amount of purchase to 3.6 grams daily or 9.0 grams in a 30-day period." (Ohio Revised Code 2925.55)

The law was enacted because meth has become a problem everywhere, she said.

"The law is easily circumvented because those in the business of cooking meth pay others to purchase their Pseudoephedrine. It is also tough to prosecute," Stirm said.

She said there are not a lot of arrests or reports made in Stow concerning this problem.
