Stow Woman, 27, Charged with Setting Fire to Father's Home

Father was asleep on the home's second floor when the blaze was set, police and fire officials say

A 27-year-old Stow woman was arrested this morning and charged with aggravated arson after police say she set fire to her father's Saratoga Boulevard home while he was asleep upstairs. No injuries were reported.

Danielle N. Smith was arraigned this morning in  on a charge of aggravated arson, a first-degree felony. 

Bond for Danielle Smith is set at $250,000 and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 26, said Lt. Anne Stirm.

Officials said the fire was started on the second floor of the home around 2:30 a.m., where James Smith, 53, was asleep. When firefighters arrived, father and daughter were outside the house and the second floor was completely in flames, Stirm said.

The origin of the fire is under investigation by the fire department and the detective bureau.

Although the cost and amount of damage is not yet known, Stirm said, "it appears the fire gutted portions of the upstairs and there appears to be quite a bit of smoke and water damage."
