16 Stow Non-Profits Lose Tax-Exempt Status

The IRS pulled the tax-exempt status from several Stow non-profits, continue reading to find out which organizations changed.

Sixteen non-profit organizations in Stow lost their tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service recently.

Across Ohio, the IRS pulled the exemption from 2,780 organizations, all for "failling to file legally required annual returns or notices for three consecutive years," according to the IRS.

Of the 16 in Stow, three of the more recognizable organizations that are no longer tax exempt are the , Stow Arts Society and the Stow Kids Playground.

Others include the Stow Home Bible Study Ministries at 4948 Darrow Rd., The Forrest Organization at 3107 Berwin Dr. and Diamond Gals of Ohio Inc. at 4372 Bunker Ln.

"Concerted effort was made to notify organizations of their annual filing requirements," said IRS Spokeswoman Jennifer Jenkins.

There are steps to take to apply for reinstatement of their tax-exempt status however, Jenkins added. 

"Unless reinstatement occurs, income received by organizations on the auto-revocation list may be taxable; donors should be aware that contributions to auto-revoked, non-reinstated organizations will not be tax-deductible," she said.
