2011 Summer Sunset Blast Events

The city is offering the free event for the fifth year.

A free pyrotechnic firework show in Stow to celebrate Labor Day? Yes, please!

The Stow Parks and Recreation Department recently wrapped up its plans for the 2011 Summer Sunset Blast. Although the event is a few weeks away still, Stow Patch wanted to share what (free) events will be happening Sept. 3. 

From 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sept. 3 at there are an aray of free activities, ending with fireworks in the park.

The festivities are totally supported by sponsors, said Community Information Coordinator Linda Nahrstedt.

Available for "blasters" are food and beverages (for purchase), games for all ages, live performances, a cornhole tournament, inflatable and high adventure toys and the grand finale is the pyrotechnic show, which will last 22 minutes long.

" has stepped up to the plate
as Blast Title Sponsor to fund the grand finale fireworks show for the second year, said Nahrstedt.

“The sponsorship by Summa Western Reserve Hospital has allowed us to move forward with getting this year’s Blast off the ground,” said Stow Mayor Karen Fritschel. “Their investment in our community event is pivotal to the existence of this event, and we thank them for being such a great community partner.”

Feature entertainment will be provided by , performing live on stage from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., with a break at 9:15 p.m. for the fireworks display.

Music from Elvis, The Eagles and Van Morrisson will be performed. (Speaking of Elvis, be sure to read our story about the .)

Also performing live is RETRO a band of four local middle school age boys who will perform classic rock favorites live on stage from
4p.m. to 6 p.m

Children will enjoy a wide array of high adventure attractions such as the Wild One, the bounce house and the inflatable slide, said Nahrstedt.

In addition, children’s games of skill will also provide loads of fun and prizes. For adults, a cornhole tournament will be held for event attendees and pre-registered participants.

The tournament is now taking registrations. Visit www.stow.oh.us to download a registration form and sign up now for a free shirt.

Local food vendors will provide sausage, burgers, dogs, pizza and fresh cut french fries as well as fried cheese, corn on the cob, chicken
sandwiches, cheesecake, brownies, cotton candy, kettlecorn, ice cream, funnel cakes and more.

There will be beer, pop, wine coolers, lemonade and bottled water available for purchase.

There is also free parking on site with handicapped and motorcycle spaces available. The event is next to the hike and bike trail and the parks department encourages residents to ride or walk to the Blast.
