City Parks Gear Up for Warmer Seasons

Stow Parks & Recreation offers residents 92 spring and summer programs this year.

Spring is here, and the Stow Parks and Recreation department is ready for it with more than 90 programs available to residents from April through August this year.

A current preview of the Spring and Summer 2011 Program shows a diversity of new and existing offerings, from astronomy, golf and baby-sitting classes to senior-adult outings and community bus trips, as well as a variety of sporting, exercise and educational series and community events.

Based on attendance in previous years, input from residents and instructors and successful programs observed in other communities, the department maintains and develops activities to appeal to a variety of interests and ages.

Newly offered classes, such as Little Linksters junior golf, expand existing, popular programs that address interests ranging from youth sports to adult wellness, from an osteoporosis workshop and ballroom-dance lessons to dog obedience and astronomy.

“We’re always perusing programs and activities that we may want to offer; also, we get a lot of input from residents who have been traveling and have seen something. It’s a give and take,” said Kathy McConnell, assistant recreation supervisor.
