Cleveland Heights Trash Collection Fees to Increase

Effective Jan. 1, 2013, monthly collection fees for residents will increase by about $4.

Cleveland Heights City Council voted to increase fees for trash collection at its regular meeting Monday, Nov. 19.

Effective Jan. 1, 2013, residents in single-family homes or in units of buildings with multiple dwellings will see their bills increase from $7 to $11.50 monthly, said council member Bonnie Caplan

Council last amended the fees March 1, 2009.

Residents in single-family homes who receive the homestead rate for sewage treatment service will have the same $3 charge for trash collection per month. All others who are not single-family homeowners or residents in multiple unit buildings will see their bills increase from $12 to $18 per month.

The charges will appear on the monthly statement for water and sewer services.

According to council documents, the fee increase was necessary "to cover increased costs to the city associated with the collection and disposal of solid waste."

I would like to see the city pick up more than once a week.

What was the $10 water bill increase for? Better customer service? I haven't seen it. What about the $50 certificate of occupancy fee increase to $150 for landlords? What service is the city providing for the increase in fees there? Seems like the city is squeezing residents without a valid justification for all these fee and rate increases. I grew up in CH and moved back last year and I am already getting fed up with what is going on with the way the city is operating and the lack of excellence in the schools.

The water bill increase is ridiculous. We pay significantly higher rates than neighbooring suburbs serviced by City of Cleveland. We need to have Cleveland take over our water department ASAP!

You gotta let the city council members know of your dissatisfaction with all these things. They don't make it easy to get their attention, but that's all the more reason to give them an earful!

Water bill "Service Fee" $4.00 to $10.00 ?? For what service ? I called about a leaking fire hydrant 3 yrs. ago ant they put an "Out of Service " sign on it. They come and look at it about every 6 months , 3 guys stand around and look at it , then go back to their card game back at the office. Its time to close down the water dept. and have the City of Cleve. make repairs. We do buy the water from Cleve. Cleve. Hts can not be a jobs provider especially when it does not benefit the city residents. City Council needs to do the right thing and close down the Cleve. Hts Water Dept.
