Contest Winners Honor Veterans, Family at Lakeview

Take a look at the different ways students at Lakeview honored veterans Nov. 11.

Students at came up with creative ways to say thank you to their veteran relatives during the .

Of all the students, four were awarded as winners of the "Heroes in our Family Contest" at the school. The entries were judged by teachers at Lakeview.

First place went to Ian Murray whose father died in 2005 when an explosive hit his military vehicle. His poem was entitled, "My Dad... My Hero."

"It reminded us all that these kids carry wounds within that deserve care and respect--and a little nurturing ... it was powerful and certainly hit us all," said Susan Deitrick, Lakeview counselor and Veterans Day Organizer.

Other students who won were Gracie Merriman for her powerpoint presentation and Marielle Muncy for her essay and poster.
