Council Withdraws ATV, Dirt Bike Restrictions

Withdrawal of proposed restrictions comes after review by mayor, police department

Stow City Council voted tonight to withdraw proposed new regulations for owners of ATVs, dirt bikes, snowmobiles and other similar off-road vehicles tonight.

Council voted to withdraw the legislation after hearing from Stow Mayor Sara Drew that the law and police departments are reviewing using existing laws to enforce problem ATV and dirt bike owners.

Look for complete coverage of tonight's meeting Friday on Stow Patch.

I would like to thank Stow Patch for making us aware of this situation in the first place. I would also like to thank the residents who helped defeat this legislation. It's nice to see the collective voice of many be heard by city council. We need to continue to ride respectfully and obey the laws in order to keep from getting our rights challenged again in the future. Remember, if you have a problem with a neighbor, take it up with them first and adress it at the lowest level. Big thanks to City Council for doung the right thing.

I also would like to thank everybody who attended tonight and the City for throwing this legislation out. I do feel for the residents who have the problem and hope it can be worked out themselves.

Bravo... Bravo.... ( : I know these few bad apples can be dealt with using the laws we already have in place...I was just curious to know if all avenues were exercised before new laws were being considered...If not more laws would have done nothing...

I also would like to thank the residents, council, law director, police chief and mayor for making the right decision. We have enough laws that take away the rights of law abiding citizens. The thought of taking away the rights of law abiding citizens versus dealing with the few bad apples is not acceptable. No I hope they will be willing to put some teeth into the current laws and help Joe Shinsky and his neighbors. Thanks as something finally worked as it should.

Did you obtain permission from Mr. Shinsky to publicly mention his name for this purpose?
Harmon March 01, 2013 at 03:50 PM
Joe Homeowner, No permission is needed. Mr Shinskys name is part of these articles and the Proceedings. Public knowledge... http://stow.patch.com/articles/stow-kills-proposed-new-atv-dirt-bike-laws Go back and read for yourself....

Thank you. I didn't see this story. With that said, HE is one of the idiots who has wasted a lot of people's time over this. This person could make it to a City Council meeting to make a statement, but not to his freaking neighbor? Pathetic.
