Culvert Work on S.R. 91 Disrupts Traffic

Road will close for up to 10 days this summer

Already two lanes of S.R. 91 near Kent Road are closed, at least until April, but this summer the road will close completely for a culvert replacement.

Stow service crews are replacing a 6-inch water main line with an upgraded 16-inch line right now, and that work has closed the two southbound lanes of S.R. 91 just south of the Kent Road intersection.

Sheila Rayman, assistant Stow city engineer, said that work is expected to keep those two lanes closed at least until April.

Next month is when the Ohio Department of Transportation starts its $300,000 project to replace the bridge on S.R. 91, just south of S.R. 59, over the Cuyahoga River.

Bret Kovacs, spokesperson for ODOT District 4, said that project should be finished by September.

This summer, between June 15 and August 15, ODOT will close S.R. 91 completely in the area for as many 10 days.

"All access to businesses and residents will be maintained throughout the construction," Kovacs said.

The closure of Darrow Road won't interfere with the July Fourth parade or the Law Enforcement Torch Relay.

Rayman said on the dates of those two events, July 4 and June 19, ODOT is prohibited from closing the road.

"They have to make sure traffic can get across" the bridge, she said.
