Proper Tree Planting Workshop

This event will be held at the Heritage Barn.

Improper planting is an epidemic in the urban forest. Studies show 80% of newly planted trees are planted incorrectly. Estimates indicate that because of poor planting, most trees will die within two to three years and those that survive will last only 10 to 15 years.  This incredible mortality has lead experts to estimate that 70 cents out of every dollar spent on trees is wasted.

Learn how to properly plant ball and burlap shade trees in this hands-on field training session.  The program will begin with a talk on proper planting techniques, how a tree responds to transplanting and how to insure the tree's success.  Then the class will go outdoors to see a demonstration on proper tree planting techniques and a supervised planting where you can try your hand at establishing some young trees.

Whether you plant trees or inspect and approve tree planting projects this is a "must see" program.

Dress for the weather and bring lunch, shovels, rakes, hand pruners, box cutter type utility knives and bolt cutters.  If you do not have these items, do not buy them before the class.  Good tools will be discussed.
