Hoops, Anyone? Registration Now Open For Youth Leagues

Popular Stow Parks and Recreation basketball program is for Stow-Munroe Falls, Holy Family students in grades 2-6.

Do you have kids interested in playing basketball this fall and winter? The Stow Parks and Recreation Department is now taking registration for one of its most popular youth programs: Boys and Girls Elementary Basketball.

This recreational program is for Stow-Munroe Falls School District residents or those who attend Holy Family School that are currently in grades two through six. No experience is necessary for a child to participate in this program.

Each child registered in the program will be taught the fundamentals of basketball and be given an opportunity to play in games to gain experience, confidence – and to have fun. All players play at least half of the game.

Practices will begin at the end of October and the season runs through March. One, one-hour practice will be held each week. Practice schedules vary for each school and cannot be assigned until registration is complete. Players will be informed by their coach of practice times either by mail or phone.

Games will be held on Saturdays beginning Dec. 1 and will be played at Kimpton and Lakeview Intermediate School. Times and locations are subject to change due to volume of registration.

Here are the divisions for boys:

  • Training – second- and third-grade league
  • Junior Varsity – fourth- and fifth-grade league
  • Varsity – sixth-grade league

Girls will be placed on teams according to grade, and enrollment will determine the division of girls’ teams.

All students are eligible to play only in their own grade.

The registration fee is $85 per child, which includes a T-shirt.

Parents may register their children weekdays at the Stow Parks and Recreation Office – now at Stow City Hall – through 4:30 p.m. Oct. 12, when registration closes.  No late registrations will be accepted.

A special registration event will be held at the parks and recreation office from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 11.

The registration form for the Boys and Girls Elementary Basketball program is attached to this article in .pdf form.
