Stow Memorial Day Program 2011

On Monday, people will gather in the Stow Cemetery for a Memorial Day Ceremony.

Stow is honoring those who have served this country in a Memorial Day Ceremony at the Stow Cemetery beginning at 10:15 a.m.

Here is the agenda for the ceremony:

  • 10:15 a.m. Parade assembly. Order of March: Color Guard, Firing Squad and Veterans, Scouts, Symphonic Band (Drum Entrance)
  • 10:30 a.m. March to monument: Posting of Colors, Firing Squad Takes Position.
  • Under the direction of Sandra Sandman, the will play "America the Beautiful" by Samuel Ward.
  • Janet D'Antonio, president of City Council, is the master of ceremonies.
  • Mayor Karen Fritschel will then give the proclamation.
  • Opening remarks are from George Fisher, Commander of the American Legion Post 175 V.F.W. Post No. 4738.
  • Rev. William Moore V.F.W.American Legion and D’Antonio will make the dedication of the wreaths. 
  • Regina Stoll, ALA President will read, “In Flanders Field."
  • The symphonic band will play,“Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "Valley Forge."
  • George Fisher will read Archibald MacLeish's poem, “The Young Dead Soldiers Do Not Speak."
  • Rev. William Moore will read the honor roll of KIAs and MIAs.
  • There will be a salute to the dead. Three Volleys by the Firing Squad and Bugle call Taps with Echo.
  • The flag will be raised to full staff during the playing and singing of "The Star Spangled Banner," by Frances Scott Key.
  • D’Antonio will read the poem,“Memorial Day” by C.W. Johnson.
  • To honor veterans in attendance, everyone will sing “God Bless America."
  • Rev. William Moore will give the benediction.

Immediately after the service, a wreathwill be dedicated at the in front of , followed by a receptionat the Acker-Moore Memorial Post, at 3733 Fishcreek Rd.
