Stow Committees Send Ordinances Forward

Council expected to vote Thursday on assessment for demolition work, microwave communication system.

The Stow City Council committees made short work of their meeting agendas Monday.

The Finance Committee agreed to send to the council a special assessment on the property taxes of a “dangerous building” at 3075 N. River Rd., which the city razed at its expense because the house was in disrepair.

The Finance Committee also agreed to move forward to the council meeting Thursday with a contract for a city workers’ compensation plan for 2012; amended a tax agreement to accommodate a name change from Wrayco Industries Inc./Gibb Properties LTD to Wrayco LLC/Gibb Properties LTD; and to the termination of a tax enterprise zone tax incentive that was no longer beneficial to Wrayco.

The committee also agreed to move forward with a plan to authorize a point-to-multipoint microwave communication solution by Motorola.

Dale Germano, manager of information systems, said, “We have looked at this technology in the past several times, and it’s always been extremely expensive. Recently the prices have come down. We thought this was the time to move on it.”

“The cost is significant; we’re looking at $77,000 ($77,139.82),” Germano said. He said it would take about 20 months for the investment to pay off in monthly savings on communications throughout the city’s buildings.

The committee also recommended authorizing expenditures with Klaben Ford for police car maintenance and Vincent Bowen for towing services. The committee agreed to move ahead with authorizing the promotion of two working field foremen to assist with managing snow removal and other city services.

The Planning Committee meeting was canceled.

The Public Improvements Committee agreed to move forward with the C1 and C2 class (wine and beer carry-out) liquor permit for Dollar General Store, 4115-3295 Kent Road, and the renewal of present liquor permits.

The City Council Planning Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and the regular council meets at 7 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall, 3760 Darrow Rd.
