Stow Man Gets Jail Time for Making Meth Near Kent School

Joshua B. Tipton, 27, of Stow, was sentenced to six years in prison and to pay a $10,000 fine after being found guilty of r. 

"Your honor, I maintain I’m innocent of these charges other than being in the paddy wagon,” Tipton was reported saying in a Record Courier story. “I’m innocent, sir.”

Lori L. Claeys, 37, of Echo Valley Drive in Stow, was also arrested for making methamphetamine in the Kent house less than two blocks from .

at 319 W. Elm St. after a joint investigation by the , Ravenna Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Youngstown Task Force.

She was charged with one count of illegal manufacture of methamphetamine, a first-degree felony, in the vicinity of a school. She pleaded guilty in April and will be sentenced June 18. 

Brewster has a plea hearing scheduled for June 25. 

Kent Police Lt. Paul Canfield the house was not a full-blown lab in the sense it was not filled with drug manufacturing tools.

"There’s a process they use now that’s fairly simple, and it’s also fairly compact,” . “It was a simple, small, they call it a ‘one-pot’ manufacturing system."

The Portage County Drug Task Force handled the removal of the chemicals and tools associated in the drug manufacturing.
