Stow Park Campground To Reopen April 15

Silver Springs is one of a few municipally owned camping facilities in the state.

The city’s public camping sites at will reopen for the season April 15.

Located on the east side of the park, off the entrance at 5238 Young Rd., the Silver Springs Campground has hosted guests for more than 40 years. In recent years, the campground has become more popular than ever.

“We have seen a huge increase in the use of our camp; 2010 was the biggest year ever, and the year before that was also a record-breaker in usage,” said Linda Nahrstedt, Stow community information coordinator.

The cost to use any one of the 27 sites for overnight camping is $10 per night for Stow residents and $12 for non-residents, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Campsite users, up to six people per site, can select a spot to set up their tents and camp, and must register for a site the first day of their stay by 10 p.m. A park attendant, who can provide maps and information, will collect the fees.

Among other amenities, each site has its own grill and fire ring area, with access to 20-amp electricity. Shared water spigots are available throughout the campsite area as well as portable restrooms; additional restrooms and sinks are located nearby in Silver Springs Park. Firewood is available for purchase.

Pets are permitted as long as they remain on a leash and are not left unattended. No alcohol beverages are permitted in the park.

The campground will be open through Oct. 31.

In addition to its camping facilities, Silver Springs Park includes basketball, horseshoe and tennis courts, a fishing pond, children’s playground, shelters, trails and and Bow Wow Beach dog park, among other options for activities.
