Summit County Issues Snow Emergency, Stow Issues Parking Ban; Car Accidents Reported

Summit County snow emergency

Summit County Sheriff Drew Alexander issued a snow emergency for Summit County on Wednesday morning, the Stow Sentry reports. 

"Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow," according to the newspaper. "Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roadways."

Parking ban

Stow has issued a citywide street parking ban, which will be in effect from now until 9 p.m. Dec. 27; however, city officials will assess whether to extend the ban on Thursday.

The ban was necessary to assist road crews that have begun to plow the city's streets, said Stow Mayor Sara Drew.

Cars parked on city streets will be ticketed and are subject to being towed. 

Drew warned the roads are slick, particularly on State Route 8, and that some minor accidents have been reported in the city. 

Preparation

Service Director Mike Miller said crews were pre-salting the streets before the storm even hit. Right now all eight plows are on the road. Crews are plowing lightly so as not to scrape away all the salt they've already spread.

There has been one accident involving a snow plow on state Route 8, Miller said. The car ran into the back of the plow and damaged the salt spreader. Luckily no one was hurt.
