Summit Prosecutor Named to National Board

Summit County Prosecuting Attorney Sherri Bevan Walsh has announced that she has been appointed to the board of the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA), the world’s largest and oldest professional organization for criminal prosecutors, and the American Bar Association (ABA) Criminal Justice Section Victims Committee, which she will co-chair with Mary Graw Leary, an associate Professor of Law at the Catholic University of American Columbus School of Law in Washington, DC.

“I’m thrilled to be in a position to improve the criminal justice system and advocate for victims on a national scale,” Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh said. “Having leadership positions within the NDAA and American Bar Association enables me to impact the way our profession continues to evolve. I am also able to further enhance victim services and protections by increasing sensitivity to crime victims’ needs within the criminal justice system and through legislative changes.”

As a board member of the NDAA, Prosecutor Walsh will work to further its mission of improving the administration of justice by providing prosecutors, other member of law enforcement, legislators and the general public with education and resources needed to continually improve the criminal justice system.

Prosecutor Walsh and Leary have identified several goals for the ABA’s Victims Committee. These include developing procedural protections and systemic improvements for victims of sexual assaults, with a particular focus on those in the military, and enhancing law school curricula offerings in victim rights law and practice.
