WATCH: Crowd, Officials Gather to Pay Respects to Fallen Stow Soldier for Veterans Day

A plaque dedicated to fallen Stow soldier Second Lt. David Rylander now sits at the entrance of the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library after the Veterans Day event Monday.

In honor of Veterans Day, the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library dedicated a plaque to Second Lt. David Edward Rylander, 23, of Stow who was killed in action in Logar Province, Afghanistan on May 2, 2012. 

Second Lt. Rylander died of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 7th Engineer Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.

Second Lt. Rylander, 23, was born on Oct. 14, 1988 in Akron. He was a graduate of home school where he excelled academically and he was an accomplished pianist, member of the Cuyahoga Falls Tigersharks swim team and an Eagle Scout, according to Redmon Funeral Home.
