6.57-Mill Levy, $2 Million in Cuts Approved by School Board

Superintendent Dr. Russ Jones said without cuts, a 14- to 15-mill levy would be necessary to stay "solvent."

The unanimously passed resolutions yesterday to cut $2 million from the operating budget next year and to place a 6.57-mill levy on the Aug. 2 ballot.

The $2 million in cuts will include not replacing 10 positions because of retirements and these reductions in force:

  • 1 custodial/maintenance supervisor
  • 1 education aide
  • 1 High School custodian
  • 1 High School registrar position
  • 1 registrar position (effective Sept. 2, 2011)
  • 1 guidance secretary
  • 1/2 pre-school aide
  • High School Receptionist reduced to 10 months from 12
  • Central Office Assistant reduced to 10 months from 12
  • 6 Kimpton reading positions
  • 3 Kimpton academy positions
  • 1/2 High School business position
  • 1/2 Indian Trail pre-school teacher

A for the district and would cost the owner of $100,000 home:

  • $201.21 annually
  • $100.60 for half a year
  • $16.77 a month
  • 55 cents a day
