'Jedi' Gino's Friend Raising Money for the CureSearch Walk

Will you help "Jedi" Jarrod reach his goal of $500?

Stow student Jarrod Maguire is raising money and awareness for childhood cancer in honor of his friend  at the age of 10.

Gino had been battling Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma — an aggressive pediatric cancer that affects soft tissue, since it was first diagnosed on Sept. 14, 2010.

Jarrod said he is raising money with CureSearch, a national non-profit foundation whose mission is to fund and support children's cancer research and provide information and resources to all those affected by children's cancer.

"I have chosen to join CureSearch in their fight for a cure by participating in The CureSearch Walk in memory of my best friend, Jedi Gino," Jarrod says on his CureSearch donation website. "I have set a personal $500 fundraising goal and it would mean a lot to me if you would support my walk in Gino's memory by making a donation to my campaign - there is no gift too big or too small."

As of Sept. 6, Jarrod raised $85.

"Please help me honor my best friend with a donation in support of this cause close to our hearts," said Jarrod.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Gino's mother, Gina Altieri, said she is wearing gold in support of her son.

The CureSearch walk in Cleveland is Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. at Wade Oval Park.
