The University of Akron held an activities fair Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. day in the Student Union Ballroom. The event, open to everyone in the community, featured 25 organizations that had activities for students. Activities included face painting, coloring, making balloon hats, and getting kids to think about what their dreams for the future are.
The goal of the activities fair was to encourage nonviolence and civic responsibility, and to teach historical facts about the civil rights movement and Martin Luther King Jr. Entertainment for the event featured dancing and gospel choirs, including The Movement from Cincinnati. The Red Cross held a blood drive in the ballroom.
Zippy, the University of Akron mascot, also made an appearance to pose for photos with children and participate in arts and crafts.
