School District Treasurer: Passing Emergency Levy is 'Crucial'

Voters will determine if Issue 2, a 6.57-mill emergency school levy, will pass Aug. 2 during a special election.

On Aug. 2, Stow residents will vote on , a levy that the district's Treasurer/CFO Catherine Bulgrin is calling "crucial."

"Passage of Issue 2 is crucial in order for the district to stay in the black given that projected revenues in future years are what the district actually receives," she said."There are no plans at this time to bring back any of the prior cuts."

Cuts total $7.6 million since 2006 and employees made , which is expected to .

“Now we need the community’s help to keep our schools 'Excellent' by supporting Issue 2 on Aug. 2. We have not received any new money since 2002," said President Pat Matthews. "If the levy doesn't pass we are at the point that we will have to begin making cuts which will affect the classroom — and possibly begin increasing class sizes."

If Issue 2 is passed, the first collection would be in 2011.
