Stow Drivers Winners at Bus Road-E-O

"I'm very proud of the both of them," said Superintendent Russ Jones.

Two bus drivers for the qualified and placed in the 2011 Ohio Bus Driver Road-e-o.

There are nine regions in the state and Stow Driver Jan Carlton was selected as a first alternate for state competition and Bus Driver Lori Fanger placed third in the regional competition and finished ninth in the state overall.

"At the regional level there are two written tests to take in general knowledge, with 50 questions each, and a driving portion," said Fanger.

Competitors do a right hand turn, a turn around, a student drop off and pick up and a railroad track stop.

"Everything is safety oriented and about doing procedural things properly," she said.

 At the state competition, drivers are also required to do a physical  bus inspection to find 10 defects.

"Most parents find what teachers to do to be amazing, but when you think of a bus driver, with 70 students and you have your back to them ...  I'm very proud of the both of them," said Superintendent Russ Jones.

"Our drivers spend hours upon hours in an obstacle course within our compound, said Transportation Supervisor John Daymon. "It is amazing to watch ... it's an amazing feat."
