Stow School Helping Save Historic One-Room Schoolhouse
The historic building is facing demolition if funds aren't raised to move it. Kimpton Middle School is helping the campaign to relocate and preserve the schoolhouse.
Stow Historical Society has a shot at saving the city’s last viable one-room schoolhouse – if it can raise $45,000 before Dec. 1 to stave off demolition by moving the building for the second time in its 130-year history.
Recently, Kimpton Middle School's students partnered with SOS: the Save Our Schoolhouse campaign to raise awareness of the fundraising efforts underway in the community to relocate and preserve an original one-room schoolhouse.
"The students will recreate an 1880s era schoolhouse and transition through the ages to a present-day classroom experience," said Annie Hanson, co-chair of SOS. "Artifacts from the 19th Century will be available for viewing, including an original school desk preserved from the Stewart’s Corners Schoolhouse."
