Boys Golf Team NEO River Division Champions

The team finished in second place at the tournament, but it was enough to make them champions of the NEO River Division.

The boys varsity golf team finished second in the Northeast Ohio Conferece Golf Tournament at , but that was enough to claim the Northeast Ohio Conference River Division Championship.

Stow's score of 301 was three shots behind tournament champion and non-division member Medina, but was three shots better than arch rival and divisionmember Hudson, enabling the Bulldogs to claim the title for the 4th consecutive year.

The Bulldogs finished with a and finished first in the division at the conference tournament.

"To go through the season undefeated in the division is quite an accomplishment," said Bulldog Head Coach Ken Miller. "These kids really wanted it and worked hard to achieve it."

Stow sophomore Ian Holt shot a 1 over par 73 in the tournament, and that, along with his regular season play, earned him the Player of the Year award in the River Division. Holt finished ahead of all 132 other players in the entire conference in the final rankings.

Bulldog Senior Captain Brandon Nixon finished second in the  conference rankings as he fired a 5-over 77 in the tournament. Senior Max DeCheco also fired a 1 over par 73 in the tournament to finish in sixth place in the overall conference rankings.

"Those three guys have led this team all season," said Miller. "They continued their solid play in the tournament and they should be very proud of what they have accomplished."

Holt, Nixon and DeCheco also finished 1, 2 and 3 in the final River Division rankings and were named to the All-NOC River Divsion team.

Joining them on the All-NOC River Division team were Senior Ryan Foster, who shot 79 in the tournament, and Senior Eric Jovanovich, who likewise fired a 79 in the tournament.

Junior Jackson Groat fired a career low 78 in the tournament.

"I'm really happy for Jackson," said Miller. "He has worked very hard and today it paid off not only for him, but for all of us." 

The Bulldogs have been looking for more consistency from all six players and found it in the tournament.

"We were the only team that had all six players in the 70's," said Miller. "That's a reflection of the desire that these guys have to play their best and we are going to need that kind of effort as we enter the sectional tournament."

The Bulldogs will play in the Candywood Sectional next Monday as they seek to return to Columbus and the State Golf Championships for the third consecutive year.
