Softball Team Ends Season with Win Against Nordonia

Stow finished the season at 15-9 overall.

The softball season ended on a positive note as the Lady Bulldogs beat Nordonia 4-2 in a make-up game that was rained out earlier in the season.

Stow finished the season at 15-9 overall, while going 4-6 in the Northern Ohio Conference River Division.

Stow was on the scoreboard first as Julie Rooney earned a walk to lead off the game for Stow. Rooney promptly stole second base and with one out, Alex Shaver doubled to left center field scoring Rooney as Stow took a nearly 1-0 lead.

Nordonia responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning on 3 hits and a Stow throwing error as they took the lead by a score of 2-1.

The Lady Bulldogs scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning on 4 straight hits. Sarah Parsons led off the inning with a single and went to second base on a passed ball. Shaver had her third hit of the game, a single that brought Parsons across the plate for Stow. A Stephanie Little single to shallow center field put runners at first second base for Stow. After both runners advanced on a passed ball, Lindsay Jones sent a single to center field and Shaver scored allowing Stow to retake the lead by a score of 3-2.

Julie Rooney came on in relief in the bottom of the fifth inning and retired all nine batters she faced in the final three innings to earn the save for Stow.

Stow added another run in the seventh inning. Shaver was hit by a pitch with one out, went to second on a stolen base and advanced to third when Little placed her third single of the game to right field. On an attempted pick off play, the ball got by the Nordonia fielder at third base allowing Shaver to score as Stow won the game 4-2.

Alex Shaver was 3-for-3, with a double and 2 singles, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs. Stephanie Little had 3 singles in 4 at bats, while Sarah Parsons and Lindsay Jones each had a single base hit for Stow. Annette Fetter posted the win finishing the season at 12-7. Julie Rooney earned her first save on the season pitching in relief for Stow.
