Stow Softball Team Beats Cuyahoga Falls 8-3

Stow Lady Bulldogs continue perfect record, winning streak.

The Lady Bulldogs got off to a good start in the Northern Ohio Conference River Division portion of the schedule as they defeated visiting Cuyahoga Falls on Monday for a 1-0 record in the conference while extending their overall record to 7-0 for the season.

Stow scored the first run in the game in the home half of the first inning. Julie Rooney led off with a single to left field and was driven home by an Alex Shaver single to right field as Stow took an early 1-0 lead in the game.

After a scoreless second inning, Cuyahoga Falls tied the game in the top of the third inning when they scored their first run.

The third inning for Stow started with a lead off double by Rooney followed by an RBI double by Sarah Parsons scoring Rooney. Shaver came through again as she belted her third home run of the season over the left field fence scoring two more runs as the Lady Bulldogs took a 4-1 lead in the game.

Rooney had her third straight inning lead off hit to start the fifth inning for Stow as she reached base on a bunt. Parson and Shaver followed as both reached base on errors allowing Rooney to score as Stow added to its lead going ahead by a score of 5-1 after five innings.

Stow put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth inning by scoring three more runs. Jenni Heid reached base on a walk and was followed by a Chloe Vickery hit to center field. Rooney then came through with her fourth hit of the game, an RBI single to right center that scored Heid. Next up was Parsons who tripled to right center field to score both Vickery and Rooney as Stow took a commanding 8-1 lead.

The Lady Tygers from Cuyahoga Falls tried to stage a comeback in the seventh inning by scoring a pair of runs, but fell short as Stow won the game 8-3.
Rooney lead the Stow offense as she was 4-for-4 in the game, 3 singles and a double, scored 4 runs and had an RBI. Shaver was 2-for-4, including a single and her home run, while recording 3 RBIs. Parsons also went 2-for-4, with a double and a triple, and 2 RBIs. Annette Fetter was the winning pitcher for Stow, as she recorded seven strike outs to send her season record to 5-0.

Stow’s next game is away on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. against Hudson.
