Stow Wrestlers Finish Second At Len Pariano Memorial

Wrestler Conner McMahon wins individual title.

The Len Pariano Memorial Tournament was hosted by Midpark High  School this past weekend, and to the delight of the packed house, the wrestling team had winners that placed in the tournament.

Stow, led by Conner McMahon, who claimed the 145-pound crown, took home second place in a hot contested race between Lakewood and Madison high schools.  In addition to McMahon, Stow had six other place winners.

McMahon, now 15-1 on the season, had an outstanding tournament recording all falls, either technical or via pin.  His first match of the day, he had a 16-1 technical fall over Troy Rosko of Mentor. He followed that up with a pin of Odea Furrenia, who was unattached in 1:01.

In his third match, McMahon duplicated his first match feat with another 16-1 tech fall, this time over Hudson's Jimmy Bruno. In the championship, he faced Midpark grappler Ryan Scholtz, who had great fan support. It didn't seem to faze him though, as he downed Scholtz via pin in 2:57 to win the event.

Sophomore Dylan Hartwig, who claimed third place honors at 112 pounds, started his day with a big win by downing David Galdesayed of Rocky River via pin in 5:32. His next match was even more stunning as he downed Willoughby's Matt Federicko in just 49 seconds. Only a loss in the semifinals to Clearview's Michael Hollingsworth kept him from the finals. Hartwig came back with a nice hard fought 6-3 win over Berea's Andrew Grega.

Stow's other third-place winner, Troy Steiger at 160 pounds, won the hard way - all via decisions. Steiger, a junior, took his first win with a 3-0 win over Chris Webber, who is unattached. He beat Josh Clouse of Columbia in his next match,  5-2, before falling to Kyle Konek of Midpark. Steiger rebounded to take home third place with a nice 3-1 win over Brookside's Zach Thompson.

Sophomore Gage Finigan (171 pounds) took home fourth place while junior Dan Garner (215) also took home fourth. Senior Ryan Rachocki (189) was fifth as was freshman Hunter Massey at 145 pounds. Massey had two pins, and a decision en-rout to his finish.
