Judge Linda Teodosio to share her journey of faith

No parent expects to outlive a child. Even a parent who makes important decisions every day affecting the lives of other people’s children can struggle to find answers when faced with the unexpected death of her own child.

Summit County Juvenile Court Judge and mom Linda Teodosio will share her journey into grief, faith and remembrance following the death of her daughter. Her talk, about finding God in the loss of her child, will open the 2013-2014 Wednesday Night Speaker Series on October 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Stow Presbyterian Church, 4150 Fishcreek Rd., Stow.

Teodosio and her husband Tom, a judge in the General Division of Summit County Common Pleas Court, lost their young adult daughter Andrea in a tragic skiing accident in West Virginia in 2011. A graduate of Walsh Jesuit High School and John Carroll University, Andrea was also an athlete, world traveler, and a lover of music. Andrea was a research and strategy development assistant at a marketing communications firm in Akron.

The Teodosios’ yearning to honor the memory of their daughter led to the creation of The Andrea Rose Teodosio Memorial Foundation, a nonprofit organization that works to demonstrate the values Andrea held close to her heart. These include compassionately assisting the underprivileged and elderly, actively addressing environmental issues, and promoting community service and education.

Some of the work of the foundation includes donating raised garden beds to area nursing homes and adult day centers, college scholarships and, through a local Girl Scout troop, collecting formal dresses for deserving girls for special occasions. The foundation also sponsors an annual 5K run.

The Stow Presbyterian Church Wednesday Night Speaker Series is designed to enlighten, educate and engage audiences on a variety of relevant and interesting topics. The series is free and open to the community.  Upcoming speakers include Reverend Sidney Bird, a retired Native American pastor, who will share about his life in the Lakota Tribe, and Paul Stutzman, author of Biking Through, who will talk about his coast-to-coast adventure and the people he met as he biked across the country.
