New Later Back-to-School Date for Eighth Grade Students

The date was only changed by one day, but find out when your eighth grade student needs to show up for school. Start and end times for every grade is also included in this story.

Your eighth-grader will probably be upset if you send them back to school a day early.

Originally, eighth grade students were to report to on Aug. 23. Now, to give the new seventh grade middle school students some time to get used to the new building, eighth graders won't be around until Aug. 24.

"It worked so well at the high school that the superintendent said it would be beneficial for the seventh grade students to become acclimated with a new building," said District Spokeswoman Jacquie Mazziotta.

Here's the new schedule: (the only change is that eight grade students return a day later than originally planned.)

  • Kindergarten through seventh grade and ninth grade students return Aug. 23 (Thursday).
  • Eighth, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students return Aug. 24 (Friday).

Start/End Times:

  • Elementary: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Lakeview: 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
  • Kimpton: 8 a.m. to 2:38 p.m.
  • High School: 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

All 11th graders will do independent study. It's a new pilot program. ;)

Know what drives me batty? The district web site has s "calendar" feature that basically has NOTHING listed. Why can't the web site have the stuff that's on the printed calendar???

I think the "start and end" times should be reversed. The highschool should start at 9, and the little ones, who love to be up at the crack of dawn anyway, should start at 7:30!

I totally agree with Mindy Davis.
